Welcome and Happy Birthday!

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Doris Prouty Foundation,

Welcome to the launch of our website!

Today would have been Doris’ 74th forever 26th birthday, and we are happy to have this space to share with you, as well as some amazing news about the foundation we’ve begun in her name.

We are off to a successful launch of the Doris Prouty Foundation!

As of December 31, 2020, we had donations from 83 people for a total of nearly $50,000 in cash donations and another $45,000 in pledges for 2021 and beyond.

This total of $95,000 has let us know we’re on the right track, and we’re going to keep going! Our next goal is to match that 2020 number by the end of 2021 in order to establish a permanent fund.

Looking ahead:

  • We plan to hold a benefit event for the Doris Prouty Foundation this summer, which will feature some music for the soul, and a chance to gather as we’re able. It will be a fun event, of course, in the spirit of Doris!

  • At this event we’ll give out swanky prizes awarded at random to folks who donate between now and the event. For example, the Ebony Quilters Guild of Queens has made a special quilt in honor of Doris, who was one of the founding members of the Guild.

  • We’ll continue to approach friends to invite them to help us achieve our goals for the permanent fund with gifts and pledges.

  • We’re organizing an annual fund drive to begin soon.

  • We’re identifying organizations to support, including helping us with the scholarship process. The main qualification is that these organizations support and/or offer experiences that are transformational in nature.

  • We will distribute three scholarships of $2500 each, to be awarded in 2021 (late Summer or early Fall.

  • We’re in the process of forming our own independent 501(c)3 charity, with a full Board and Advisory Group.  For now, Massachusetts Philanthropy has been a wonderful host and helped us launch quickly and is giving valuable support and advice.

We want to thank again everyone who has donated to the Doris Prouty Foundation so far.  It has been heart-warming to feel the love and support, and to be working on such a meaningful project together.

All the love, for Doris,

Dick, Ila, Seth and Bo
